AJ#26: Back

[The video feed fades up as August Joyce is stood looking into the camera, dressed in his new long grey coat over blue jeans and a crisp white shirt. He’s looking serious but calm, seemingly more himself than he was towards the end of 2011 when he walked away from Peach State Wrestling. Behind him is the city of Vancouver, August’s home. There’s the sound of cars driving past, people walking and talking and an underlying sound of steam and ticking which is barely audible in the distance.]

This weekend August Joyce and Adrian Hunter head to Griffin for a shot at the Peach State Wrestling Tag-Team Championships. It’s going to be one hell of a night at the old Wal-Mart building and Krinkle & Harrison better bring their A game if they want to retain the straps.

You know, those belts represent both the highest and lowest points of my time in Peach State so far. Together with one half of Ass-scented Supremacy I was the first ever PSW Tag-Team Champion. My name will forever be in the record books here, even though the reign was hardly lengthy and my partnership with Jace was anything but smooth.

Then there was that battle royal thing with a bunch of losers; and Blaine Harrison. I wasn’t myself that night and Blaine’s right to say I phoned it in. My head was elsewhere and my spirit was at its lowest ebb.

I paid the price for disrespecting the Peach State fans, wrestlers and staff that night. But now I’m trying to get my career back on track and what opportunity presents itself? A shot at the Peach State Tag Titles. Life’s funny like that.

But this shot is not just about the titles; it’s about regaining my spot here in Peach State. It’s about the pathway that leads to regaining my moniker of the Peoples Choice. It’s about repaying Cody’s faith in me, it’s about righting a few wrongs.

And it’s also about becoming the first ever two-time PSW Tag-Team Champion.

So what about my partner this time around? Hunter, I know very little about you. But I see you got the fire in your eyes like all good rookies; you got spirit. With your youthful exuberance and my years of experience; I say the immediate future looks bright for the pair of us.

As for our opponents… Krinkle, you scare me. Seriously, a grown man who feels the need to dress and act as he does? Some serious therapy needed there. You think Adrian and I are the embodiment of Batman & Robin? If you insist on relating everyone to Batman characters then I’ve always seen myself as more Nightwing than any… wait, I’m not getting dragged into this, clown! Although maybe you’re the Joker and Blaine is… Harley Quinn?

That would be unfair on Blaine, that’s for sure. To be honest I think being lumbered with the clown is harsh on the guy as it is. He’s got talent, there’s no doubt about that. But I’m determined to prove myself here in Peach State and if that means making a fool out of both Krinkle AND Blaine then so be it.

And that’s what’s going to happen at the old Wal-Mart building in Griffin, Georgia. It’s a new venue for me and a little bit different from my last match. Just last week I main evented a show at the Stadio Olimpico in Italy. 80,000 people watching me. This weekend in Griffin won’t have as many people in attendance but it will be bigger in what it means for my career.

It means I’m back on my own two feet. It means I’m back as the Peoples Choice. And it’ll mean I’m back in the record books as the first two-time Peach State Tag-Team Champion!
