Friday 3rd June
We see the gates of Dixieland Fun Park, home of Peach State Wrestling. It’s late in the day and people are starting to leave the park and head home. There’s a big poster for the upcoming event and a group of young ladies are handing out leaflets to people as they go past. Off to one side stands August Joyce.
“June Jam, the teams have been drawn. The Peoples Choice will be teaming with one half of the NWA World Tag-Team Champions, Jace Parker Davidson. And in the opposite corner, WCCW Unified Heavyweight Champion Jason Jousma and the PSW Champion Kidd Kaboom.”
Joyce smiles at the thought. Some people stop as they are heading out of the park, seeing August talking into the camera and deciding to wait and listen to what he has to say.
“That’s a hell of a lot of gold in one ring and I’m the one person involved in this match who is currently without a title belt around his waist. I consider it a great honour to be in the ring with these three men and it will be a great test for me.”
He pauses briefly, a glint in his eye showing how much he’s enjoying the current situation in Peach State.
“Although I’m determined to make it a bigger test for them.”
“I’ve seen Jace in action before, I know what to expect from my partner. And while I lack certain… attributes… that he’s used to in a tag-team partner I’m sure he’ll find that he’s been handed a spot of luck in drawing me. I was part of a successful tag-team for a long time; it’s how I made a name for myself in this business. And now I get the chance to head back to my roots, which is just perfect timing for me as I try to get back to basics and re-ignite my career.”
“Jace and I have spoken about the situation. We may be very different people, different wrestlers. But we’re on the same page, we share a common goal. Both of us want our names to go down in PSW history, the first Peach State Tag-Team Champions.”
August looks back over his shoulder at the massive poster for June Jam, pictures of all the PSW stars printed on it. The people that Joyce will have to face, and beat, if he wants to walk out with Championship gold over his shoulder.
“I’m ready, I’m willing, I’m able. And I know Jace is too. But can we really say that about those men and women who stand between us and victory?”
Joyce shrugs.
“The first people that stand in our way are Kid Kaboom and Jason Jousma. Now, I’ll admit, the switching of Jared James for Jousma is something that took me by surprise. Jace and I both considered Jared to be the weak link in the team. But now? Now I’m not so sure there is a weak link. Both of these guys are accomplished wrestlers with great track records.”
“And if we get past the gold-fest of a match with Kaboom and Jousma then there’s one of two teams we could face. John Empires and Dixie Leigh being the first of them. Quite a pairing. These two represent a highlight and a lowlight of my first night in Peach State. Dixie’s great cookies and John’s boot in my crotch.”
August pauses for a moment, re-living the moment he was introduced to John Empires.
“I feel that payback may well be in order for Empires should our paths cross. And just because I like Dixie and love her cookies, doesn’t mean I’m going to turn to dough if we find ourselves in the ring together. As much as I like her, I like the idea of a nice shiny belt around my waist just that little bit more.”
“But we may not even get to face Dixie and Empires; they face tough opposition in Tara Michaels and Trenton Williams in the first round. Now let’s start with facts here, Trenton’s an ass. But he’s got talent, I have to admit that. I mean there’s a reason he and the Kidd have been trading the Peach State Championship between them and a reason he’s known as Livewire. He’s a danger that we can’t afford to ignore. But that’s the great thing about Peach State, every single person working for this company is a danger. For example, Trenton’s partner, Tara. She certainly has… skills. Seriously, probably more up front skill than any other woman in this business.”
There’s a chuckle from some fans who are watching as they notice Joyce is gesticulating with his hands in front of his chest as he talks about Mrs Michaels-Davidson. August pauses, realises what he’s doing and raises an eyebrow as he looks away from the camera for a moment.
“I think I’m using the wrong wording… I don’t want people to misinterpret what I’m trying to say. What I mean is…”
He pauses again, thinking of the right words.
“Tara has enormous tits. For real, they’re huge!”
August laughs and shakes his head, holding up a hand as if to say ‘I’m kidding’. There’s a ripple of laughter from the male portion of the crowd that has gathered around.
“In all seriousness there’s a reason she’s one half of the NWA Tag-Team Champions. She’s dangerous. And she’s also the wife of my partner, Jace Parker Davidson. Should we end up facing her and if Jace feels he can’t beat down on his wife, then I want them both to know that I have no problem with doing it for him.”
Joyce looks out at the people, at the poster and at the girls still handing out leaflets to prospective June Jam attendees. There’s a smile on his face. The build up to an event is always one of the highlights for August. He loves the promotion work, the video pieces like this one that he records for his YouTube channel and the interaction with the fans in the days prior to a match. The only thing he loves more is stepping into an arena, into a ring.
“And that’s nothing personal against Tara, or Jace. I know he’d do the same if it were my wife across the ring from me. It’s called teamwork, it’s called getting the job done. And that’s what’s needed if we’re going to win the Peach State Tag-Team Champions.”
