Marcie du Toit today commented on her recent signing with Simcoe County Championship Wrestling. du Toit, who wrestles under the name Veronique, had been away from a ring for five years since her departure from the Millennium Wrestling Alliance.
“It’s great to be getting back into the squared circle again.” She said of her decision. “I’ve always loved wrestling, it’s been very kind to me over the years. Having five years away hasn’t dented that love at all.”
Those five years have seen Marcie put away the Veronique moniker and live a more subdued live in her home town ofNice, France. When asked further about the incident surrounding her decision to step away from the ring she was less keen to talk.
“My decision to get back in the ring has nothing to do with that period of my past. It’s been so long since I competed, there’s a whole new generation of stars out there now. I’m just keen to show them all what I’m capable of.”
And a great deal of those new stars can be seen in SCCW where Veronique will now call home. But what was it about Simcoe that caught Marcie’s eye?
“This is a company that does things right. Everyone who’s ever been a part of this business can see that. I’d heard of them before, had discussions about coming here before but other commitments got in the way. I’d all but given up on the business when I got a call from a group called the Untied Nations, a group that are taking great wrestling talent from across the globe and giving them a helping hand. Just after I agreed to work with them I got the call from Simcoe.”
So just what does Marcie expect from her SCCW career? How far can Veronique go?
“People can expect fun, pure and simple. I just love to wrestle and I like to entertain. As for how far I can go… who knows. I guess you’ll just have to tune in to Monday Night Aggression to find out!”
There’s no doubt that this former ACW World Champion, W4F Television Champion and MWA Legacy Champion has a strong love of wrestling and a subtle determination to prove herself. But after such a long time away from the ring, will she still be able to win over a crowd and compete with the talent on display in Simcoe? Only time will tell.
